It took me sometime but I am pleased to say I have just finished mixing the Strawbs final concert. It is always difficult recording and mixing live gigs but Cropredy is exceptionally difficult given the fact that this was a new lineup with limited rehearsal time and there is no soundcheck only a line check and no real monitor check. Our front of house mixer did a great job but I only had the raw tracks of each voice and instrument and had to start from scratch. Now consider this there are microphones on stage for voices and instruments and it is inevitable that they pick up not only the intended source but anything else that enters their sound field. Normally care would be taken to avoid this but there isn’t the time to do it there as one band finishes their gear is taken off and the next put on and mics placed all this is done as quickly as possible because timing is important at a festival and all has to finish at a predetermined time for the local residents sake I would presume. Anyway it’s a wonderful event and we would do it again and again if it were possible and I am so happy with the result I now have. I believe this will come out as a DVD …watch this space.
